FWIS1 members

Postby vendic » Sat Feb 11, 2017 8:49 pm

So after a post in scitech about web history, Tarragon pointed me to a site that had what I was looking for and some backups of FWIS1, the structure and posts but not the content of the posts.

So I decided to go through the list of names we no longer have here because they either left or lost track finding us.

In strictly first up order as found on the forum working down:

Mickal555

I remember these ones though they weren't on the first pages of the site:

Meteora
Archer

And these that I know who have passed on:

Mike Alexander
Russ
CID
Maksutov

I'm know there was more but I can't remember their monikers.

I'm suspecting a lot left through natural migration, others got lost when we lost FWIS1 and then FWIS2.
I imagine at this point that the probably think FWIS shut down a long time ago.
Thanks for all the fish.

And some were banned.

There was Beck, and Jess. There was Colt. There was a young man from the Cincy area that I can't remember his screen name. Something to do with Dragon maybe? Then there was jlj, but he may not have joined until FWIS2

I just wish I could remember Dragon guy's actual screen name. I remember we had a couple of conversations and talked about the possibility of meeting IRL since we were close.

Last I checked he was posting on Illuminati r us

I think his name was Dragon Star. I just checked. I posted there in case anyone was wondering what happened to FWIS and gave them a link to the site.

It has a lot of what were common members on FWIS and BAUT. Just like any forum it's members have individual personalities. I never had any issues with anyone there other than Bill Thompson who also joined here at one point who was pretty much a troll type character.
Lance the admin is a nice guy as are a lot of the other posters. Back around the time of FWIS1 this place was a hot pit of firefights but they were a lot more mellow. Seems FWIS3 however has evolved more like them than we used to be. Most of the really contentious posters were either banned or moved on. So now we have, "mild" FWIS. lol

You can join if you like. They won't bite. :)

I don't have time to be a productive member here or baut, or read the books I'm supposed to. Looking for additional time sponges does not seem to be a good idea.

We were talking about bullying in a recent TKD instructor's meeting. It was suggested to have someone come in familiar with bullying to talk with us so we could talk to our younger students about the topic with some expertise. The Grand Master bristled that he knew more about bullying and how to deal with it than everyone there. "I've been teaching anti-bullying techniques for 35 years!" The guy next to me spoke up, "Sir with all do respect I agree with you but there's so much cyber-bullying these days that kids have to deal with." I said, "I'll show you how to deal with that." I took out my phone, looked at it and said, "Aww man, someone called me a h0m0 on Facebook. Oh well." I threw my phone over my shoulder, looked around and said, "Hey, who's hungry?"

lol

I do think people get too emotionally involved online sometimes. Confusion also results because as people we are used to seeing others and gauging intent by their tone of voice and body language. All that is missing in text so it's easy to misunderstand people even ones you know. Plus there's that peer pressure thing younger people fall into. After a certain point that becomes irrelevant but till that day happens people are very susceptible to it.
I mean how many times have people here miss-communicated. I'm guilty of reading people wrong and others are of reading me wrong too. Plus I love to do epic rants in person that are more funny than serious but doing it in text makes me come out like a psychotic douche. I do admit that sometimes I go with the flow there...

I gotta tell you, I love when the Dragon or Sigma or Fisher posts on my fb in the same snarky way they would here. It's fun to imagine what non-FWISers think of it, because I don't have that kind of relationship with most of the people there! I'll have to find some examples.

Snarky? Moi? Why I am sure you must have taken me out of context. ;)
