In Memoriam

In Memoriam

Postby SciFi Chick » Fri Apr 17, 2015 4:18 am

I am very saddened to report that another beloved member of FWIS has passed away. cid passed away at his home, in his bed. I have no further details. He was one of our stranger characters, a big ol' teddy bear with weird taste in websites and even weirder taste in home "cooking". He went through a lot of ups and downs with us, and he will most certainly be missed.

It is a sad day.

I haven't been here much lately and I just happened to see this in Facebook. I always felt Charlie was one of the more unique visitors here. I am very sorry to hear of his passing.

thank you, sfc. that was lovely.

cid was generous with his time and expertise. he was a ham and routinely provided communication at races and parades. he also could be counted on to help out at star parties and schools' science/technology days. his cooking was something else; he swore that one of his concoctions ate a hole in the pot.

i have been in contact with his family and will pass along whatever they tell me.

I look forward to hearing what his family has to share... and I really do believe that one of his concoctions burned a hole in the pot. :D

I propose changing our masthead, to immoralize Charlie,as one of our bright and guiding stars.... Like Mike and Russ were....

Yes, please do (well, you got my vote at least).

I agree with swift and brite. What should we say about him? Finder of weird Internet sites? Master of chemistry (for his ability to make food that burns holes in pots)?

We could say something about how he never gave up, no matter what life threw at him...

I'm thinking of changing the masthead to "Our guiding lights... Russ, Mike and Charlie... Shine on...."

In memory of our guiding lights - Russ, Mike and Charlie - “To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest”
That's beautiful.

You know, I used to groan whenever I saw a post containing that phrase "bullsqueezin's"... I mean, seriously. That is such a gross way of putting it. So much more ick-factor than plain old "bullshit", you know?

And now it hits me, I'll never be seeing that turn of phrase again. And that actually hurts.

So long, Charlie. You were a good guy, and I wish I'd known you better.

I read this, nodded to myself, and thought, "Great idea!" Forgot to write that down, because you don't actually live in my head.

Dang, he'll be missed. As others stated, he did have his own way of saying things. I suppose he'll be still gazing at the stars and communicating on one of those radio thingamawhatsits. I'll have a drink to his memory later on.

He had a couple thousand posts over at BAUT, a few of the old-timers remember him well. I'll miss him.
