Medicamentations...

Had a crappy day? Think your only friend is the dog? Got fired? Someone piss in your Wheaties? Just need to blow off some steam and rant? Here's the place to do it. No judgement, maybe some sympathy, possibly some advice... but definitely a safe place to go off on the world.

Medicamentations...

Postby cid » Fri Sep 27, 2013 10:25 pm

Various people (some on here, some around home) have been bullyragging me to get my tender young fundament to the doctor for a checkup and some prescription refills.
I've been somewhat negligent on this for financial reasons, but with a bit of help I went today.
This doctor is part of a family practice that has been my health care provider since at least 1957. They are the reason I am still trundling across Planet Earth.

Doc and I spoke of many things, including my financial situation. He said (and this is a quote) that he'd rather treat me for free than see me with no medical supervision.
I was humbled.
I don't care if it's trolling the gutter for cigarette butts so's I can make and sell roll-yer-own off brands, I am sticking with this physician and will make all attempts to keep financially
current with him -- Obamacare be d@mn3d...

Anyway, got the appropriate blood drawn, and he loaded me up with six months' medication from the sample room, and prescriptions on the $10/3mos list down at the big box store
pharmacy (two big name medications for diabetes control and cholesterol control are FREE, to build up business there).
Pills? I got pills coming out the buns...

Speaking of buns...

My chart said that it had been well over a year since I'd been in, he noted as he pulled on the rubber glove...

...@#$%^&@$#%$^%&...

A manual prostate exam is a constant reminder of why I'm not gay, he said, sitting gingerly in front of the keyboard...

You mean since he'd been in?

It is wonderful when you find a provider (or providers) who understand. I now have learned to ask any specialist we need to see about options. I fight the good fight with insurance, then see what the company can do for me privately. The last bill for 9,000 for monitoring got down to 900 after two rounds through insurance but after my inquiry our payment was 90 (whew). It's worth asking questions, and being honest about your situation. Never stop. You may hear no once or twice, but sometimes the third time you find just the right person who knows where to send your paperwork.

Since I know we have a long road ahead, I have now made this my "practice" for every single provider. The results are astoundingly positive for the most part. Mind you I just got a bill that I believe was already paid so back to the phone booth (where's that red cape again?)

Charlie... check out healthcare.gov -- there is a calculator there that tell you how much insurance will cost you under the ACA. (I'll be that if your state has expanded Medicaid, you qualify, and I think that you are close to Medicare age, right??) One of the benefits is prescription drug coverage.

PATRICIA! Have you had your lady parts checked recently?? There are no co-pays for that, not since a year ago August, thanks to the ACA. If not... schedule the damned appointment. In your situation, the last thing that needs to happen is for you to get sick.

I don't give a good Gods damn or not if you like the man, voted for him, think the whole idea sucks... BUT -- if you don't have insurance, take a look at the options.

I posted it here because it was the perfect place to bitch about it. It was a number of hours before I could sit down without having a reminder of
the occurrence of the day.

And if I must point out the obvious to the oblivious, indignities are in the perception of the recipient.

...so there...(we need a smilie of a tongue being stuck out and giving a razzberry...)

mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. my most abject apologies. how could i have forgotten that you are the picture of dignity? and the picture i'm thinking of is you in a field wearing suspenders and something plaid (as i recall) demonstrating safety techniques with a walker fitted out with a horn and lights.
