Mob tries to storm LGBTQ student house at Bucknell Uni

Had a crappy day? Think your only friend is the dog? Got fired? Someone piss in your Wheaties? Just need to blow off some steam and rant? Here's the place to do it. No judgement, maybe some sympathy, possibly some advice... but definitely a safe place to go off on the world.

Mob tries to storm LGBTQ student house at Bucknell Uni

The crowd of men showed up at the house on Thursday night, banging on the doors and windows and yelling: “Let us in!,” “This isn’t your home!,” “This is our home!”

Inside, residents of Fran’s House — an on-campus home for LGBTQ students at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. — locked the entrances and watched from the windows, terrified. They called campus public safety officials as the group of nearly 20 men tried to enter, resident adviser Tyler Luong said in a letter to the president of the private liberal arts school.

And the icing on the cake:

“When I arrived,” he wrote, “I saw one of my residents holding down the window, while a bunch of silhouettes stood menacingly on the other side. Can you possibly imagine seeing the fear that was in the eyes of my residents?”

They waited “way too long” for campus public safety officers to arrive, only for the officers to “laugh at the situation.” Luong said the officers reminisced about their college days with the group of men and promised to speak with the chief about getting them access to the house after finals. They did not ask Fran’s House residents whether they were okay, he said.

What a bunch of assholes. According to the article at least the University didn't hide behind the usual BS.

Wild howler monkeys have better manners. Or at least a marginally understandable social order. :o

I am somehow not surprised it's a banned fraternity behind this. You really and truly have to be terrible for that to happen on a college campus!

I have a colleague who joined Bucknell last year in the physics dept and is queer. I'll be sure to reach out and make sure she's doing ok, thanks for bringing this story to my attention.

No problem, Rommie. And wow re the banned fraternity. That's... yeah.

TBQH I think fraternities shouldn't be a thing at all, colleges should just start banning them all. Especially with some of the horror stories my dad told me about being in one.

It really depends. I was never into Greek life, but had friends who were and there's just such a huge variety in student societies. Like, one of my friends was in a sorority that was for women in engineering, and it was a giant support network for women going through a lot of crap. My brother was in one, they weren't really into hazing etc, but his job of being the treasurer senior year for the frat was what landed him his first job (because it's not a minor task for a college student). On the other hand, the "banned from campus" frat at his school was (in)famous for beating up their pledge class every year- like, not much the university can do if they're already banned from campus and doing such insane things.

I think it's more important to remember that any type of organization can be both great or terrible, but it doesn't automatically mean they all are.
