Octlantis, city of cephalopods

Okay, this from several years ago, and the city only contains about 15 octopuses... but wow. They're developing society and culture! As we watch!

Also loving this tidbit:

Octopolis seems to be centred on an unidentified human-made object about 30 cm (11.8 inches) in length, but there's no obvious comparable object in Octlantis that creatures appear to have settled around.

They built another little settlement around an "alien" artifact. Like the apes in 2001, except the monolith is some old rusted trash or something.

Is it weird that this gives me hope?
