Email Problems

Postby Loresinger » Sun Sep 08, 2013 7:31 pm

every time I try to send an email I get this message:

you are about to override how Thunderbird views this site

Location: smtp.fwis3.com:587

The site tries to identify itself with invalid information, which could indicate identity theft

certificate is not currently valid. It is impossible to verify if the identity was reported lost or stolen

---------------

NOTE: I did NOT confirm security exception. I'm not sure what's afoot but I'll use hot mail until someone gives me guidance.

That is a Thunderbird issue. Not a server issue. At least from where I'm sitting... but.... I'm just pulling my head out of the books for a minute or 5....

Brite is partly right.

Trish, from what I can see, your copy of Thunderbird is configured to use SSL (encrypted) connections to the Mail Server, when you send email.

Thunderbird is expecting that the certificate that the Mail Server (smtp.fwis3.com) is using, has been issued to that name, however it has been issued to a different name, so it complains about it. Or, the certificate could have expired, they usually last for like 2 years though.

There are three possible ways around this:

a) Tell Thunderbird to stop trying to encrypt the connection.

b) Add a Security Exception so it doesn't complain anymore

c) Have the Mail server installed with the correct certificate.

Yes I know, it sounds like Chinese mixed with Klingon.

Assuming that Option C is not possible (because Fat Cow won't do it, or charge extra for it). Trish, what version of Thunderbird are you using?
