Elon Musk goes full Nazi

Like actual full Nazi, not even trying to code it anymore.

“You have said the actual truth” was Musk’s Wednesday night response to a paid X Premium user who, in explaining why “Hitler was right,” accused Jewish communities in the U.S. of “dialectical hatred against whites” and blamed them for “flooding their country” with “hordes of minorities.” Musk went on to clarify that he was not talking about all Jews, just the Anti-Defamation League (which has criticized Musk for white nationalist content on his platform) and unnamed others he claimed were “unjustly” focusing on “the majority of the West” rather than “the minority groups who are their primary threat.”

Very cool and not at all worrying that one of the richest people on the planet, with vast influence on both the public and private spheres worldwide, is now blaming The Jews for the world's problems.

I used to like Elon Musk back in the days when he just ran SpaceX. I don't know if he's really that crazy or likes playing the shock jock. But one thing is certain: He should do as Charles Lindbergh did after WWII and stop talking about shit he doesn't know about.

TBH I think Musk was always like this, he just had more people able to tell him no and/or keep him away from the guts of the companies he bought. But like, he is the son of a guy who got rich owning emerald mines in Apartheid era South Africa. He might hate his dad (for good reason) but I don't think the apple fell far from the tree, esp. given Tesla's preexisting record of racism and abuses against workers.

Also just... space stuff isn't necessarily right wing, but there is definitely a contingent - transhumanist, ableist, racist, European triumphalist, etc. - who see space colonization as the logical conclusion of white Europeans' ostensible superiority. And that contingent tends to attract rich fucks. I'm not sure if he was always one of them, but like any time you get a really rich guy interested in space exploration these days it's a good bet that he's got connections to TESCREAL if not outright neoreactionaries.

(Also not to say that transhumanism is inherently bad, there are definitely forms of it that more embrace an idea of expanding what "human" means, and using technology to empower women and disabled people. But the TESCREAL kind tends to be a lot more about "enhancing" humanity, and implicitly leaving behind everyone who can't be enhanced - IOW, eugenics.)

For more on TESCREAL: https://www.truthdig.com/articles/the-a ... ightmares/

At best these people are cultists, rich idiots, or computer people who are grossly ignorant of the rest of STEM. At worst they are straight up fascists or monarchists. Most of them also like to reinvent Christianity badly.

I just had to google TESCREAL.

Has Musk always been an asshole? most probably. But I strongly suspect that it got worse when he started believing his own press. (as usual). Seen that happen often.

Well, since the closest thing I have to an ideology is that I strongly dislike authoritarians, regardless of what they're selling. (Except for Chavistas, anyone who favors them is in my shitlist FOREVER) and their useful idiots, I really never saw anything with aerospace ideologically. I just think it's cool.

Yeah, honestly as a space buff it sucks how these people are so intent on turning it into an authoritarian thing. Sadly though that goes way back, and I'm not just talking about Warner von Braun; O'Neill cylinders for instance were originally envisioned as company towns in space.

That sounds like the right wing version of idiots like Heinz Dieterich

He is considered[by whom?] one of the most important figures in the "New School of Bremen" in sociology, constituted by Arno Peters, Carsten Stahmer, and the Cuban physicist Raimundo Franco. This school implements principles of cybernetics, quantum mechanics and the "principle of equivalence" to sociology. In 1996, Steffan contributed to the creation of the alternative information website Rebelion.org, where he contributes regularly.

They can all go screw themselves as far as I am concerned

Last month, pre baby, I heard Walter Isaacson in town giving a lecture on his latest biography which is about Elon Musk. Someone asked him this- does he actually believe this or is he just stirring the pot? Isaacson said he wasn't sure, pointed out, rightly IMO, that by this point it doesn't matter- he is creating a haven for those who believe it, and making the world a less safe/ worse place.

Pretty friggin' ridiculous all around.
