on a lighter note - clothing sizes

Had a crappy day? Think your only friend is the dog? Got fired? Someone piss in your Wheaties? Just need to blow off some steam and rant? Here's the place to do it. No judgement, maybe some sympathy, possibly some advice... but definitely a safe place to go off on the world.

on a lighter note - clothing sizes

i have 3 pairs of jeans from the same company. same line, same size. 2(burgundy, purple) were purchased new. same store, same time. the burgundy are loose. the purple are just a bit too tight to be worn in public. i bought the 3rd pair at one of the fabulous local thrift shops (brite, no joking - they're fantastic. i got a blue suede jacket - with tags!- from nordstrom's for $1.75 once.) again, same company, line and size only i can barely get into them. it seems i must carry a tape measure as the labels appear to be meaningless.

T-shirts.... that say they are my size and don't cover my what looks like "I'm pregnant" belly and jeans that gap so badly that when I sit down, they are are half way down my thighs are my biggest problem.... I have an ass that leaves the room 10 minutes after I'm gone and brings it's own lunch... I have to shop in the "big girls" stores and in California, the thrift stores only carry size 2 or smaller...

Yeah, one of the strange phenomena of clothes is in Europe I am the equivalent of 8 or 10... and then in the USA I'm magically a size 6! Even a size 4 once!

Speaking of, check out this piece on girls sizes vs boys in Target if you want to know more on how messed up sizing can be in the USA.

I remember once I was going to buy a pair of pants I had just tried on, but they had a spot or a rip on them. Instead I grabbed another pair from the rack of the same size. Got home and guess what? Too tight. I just can't buy anything unless I try it on. Pants especially.

Hmmm. My only problem is that I seem to be between sizes on inseam. 33 fits me, 32 looks dorky, 34 requires I roll up the legs. 33 is an uncommon size.

I don't seem to have a size variance problem with my favored style of pants: jeans. If I see the size I want for Wrangler, Levi's or Lee, I buy them and head for the checkout. They always fit as advertised.

Right now, manufacturers have decided that all women wear heels with their jeans. SO they make jeans, even for us short people 7 inches too long. I kid you not.

And we will NOT even get into a discussion about spandex and the Rubenesque woman....

Been wearing the exact same size and style of Levi's jeans for 30 some years. Usually the Sri Lanki ones fit right. Indonesia, not so much. I have some that fall down, some that are perfect and some I really have to suck it in to button. Same material, same company, same model (505), same exact size...

I've learned never to assume that pants which are the same size and brand from the same store will fit me equally well. What's worse for me is that I buy a pair that fits perfectly and then must decide whether it's safe to put them in the dryer after laundering. They may maintain their size pretty well or they may shrink almost a whole size. Sure I can line dry them, but if you have to line dry jeans, what's the point? They're jeans!

Also, why do men get an almost unlimited choice of lengths in each size, and women are lucky to get the choice of short, average, or tall?
